Autumn Outdoor Activities

Have a good time with different outdoor activities this fall, from volunteering to clean-up a forest, enjoying good music and food, to taking amazing photos in a Pumpkin Village.

“It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is the theme for the 14th fall festival at the Dallas Arboretum, and highlights the nationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village, with pumpkin houses and creative exhibits that use more than 90,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash. The festival began on September 21 and runs until October 31 features topiaries of the Charlie Brown characters’ Linus, Sally, Franklin, Snoopy, Woodstock, Lucy, Schroeder, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Pig-Pen. Named one of “America’s Best Pumpkin Festivals” by Fodor’s Travel, the festival features breathtaking colors of fall including 150,000 autumn flowers accented by pumpkins, gourds, and squash.

Saturday Volunteer Day at Hines Park

Groundwork USA is a network of local non-profit organizations that are dedicated to transforming the natural environment and working at the intersection of the environment, equity and civic engagement. The mission of Groundwork Dallas is to regenerate, sustain, and improve the Dallas Elm Fork Greenbelt and Great Trinity Forest by developing community-based partnerships that educate and empower people, businesses, and organizations to promote environmental stewardship. Everyone deserves a green, healthy, and resilient environment.

Join as a volunteer at Groundwork Dallas at Hines Park on October 5, and help clean up the forest and the pond by removing litter and debris, pruning and trimming along paths, and beautification throughout. Help protect this park’s water source, a paradise for migratory birds as well as egrets and herons.

Groundwork Dallas will provide all event materials, such as gloves, tools and trash bags.

State Fair of Texas

Every fall, Fair Park hosts one of the largest fairs in the country. The State Fair of Texas began on September 27 and ends on October 20, is the longest-running fair in the nation with 24 consecutive days of entertainment, food, and activities celebrating everything related to Texas. For this year, the theme of the fair is “Celebrating Texas Creativity” in order to highlight Texan artistry and as a celebration of creativity that has propelled Texas forward. A fair for all ages and with live music all day.

Dallas Symphony at The Zoo

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Zoo announced a concert that will take place at the zoo on October 19, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Members of the Brass Section of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform popular music and classic favorites that the audience will enjoy free with zoo admission.

Dallas’ Original Pumpkin Festival

This October 12 will be held the “Dallas Farmers Market’s Texas Pumpkin Festival”, where you can choose over 25 varieties of Texas pumpkins, gourds & squash to enjoy pumpkin pies and décor gourds. Cooking demos, tastings, live entertainment, and Choo Choo Train and Little Farmers Activities. And at 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m., Lone Star Circus presents the Cirque Kerwich, a whole show under a circus tent.
