How to clean your baby’s toys naturally?

When we learned the great news, happiness invaded our souls, we stared at each other and shouted with emotion: We are going to be parents! And since our daughter was born our lives have changed and we have felt the depth of such infinite and true love.

We all know that babies are very delicate and that as parents our world revolves around them. They are the owners of our hearts and with a smile, they can try and make sure that we do everything they want. Naturally, because it is a 24/7 mission, we know it’s physically demanding to nurse in the midnight hours or to chase them down the hall to get dry after the night’s bath. Whether it’s to make sure they’re well fed or so they don’t slip on the floor, we will always be aware of their health and safety.

One of the best ways to take care of our children is to create a safe environment in the home so they can develop freely. Since our daughter started to crawl and discover with her exploring hands everything around her, we researched even more about cleaning products (we must confess, at a freaky level reading manufacturer’s material safety data sheets) and became educated parents in the products that we should use to minimize toxic exposure to chemicals. We’re happy to say that what we professionally use at Gmaids passed the test!

We cleaned everything, every corner of the house was examined and sterilized, naturally. From our experience with ecological cleaning, we realize that commercial products with listed ingredients such as chlorine and ammonium hydroxide are not the best allies for this task. All those products that make everything look shiny, are typically full of toxins that are really harmful to the family. Think of every surface we clean: counters, toilets, mirrors, and most extensively, floors. Let’s remember that babies—definitely ours!—love to be barefoot on the floor to then bring all their toys up to their mouth.

Along with this post, we want to show you a natural and chemical-free way to clean the areas of the house and remarkably, our baby’s toys and many other things that our kids are in contact with. This spray for regular cleaning is very easy to make and is perfect for sanitizing and getting away of chemicals and commercial products, it is natural and safe.

Natural disinfectant spray

Have the following items handy to make your own natural disinfectant spray:

  • 1 cup pure white vinegar
  • 1 cup of pure water
  • 30 drops of organic lavender essential oil or your favorite essence.
  • 1 large spray bottle
  • optional: 1 tablespoon of plant-based multipurpose cleaner (we used Bio-Kleen all-purpose concentrate) for a deeper cleaning action

The first thing you should do is mix all the ingredients in the bottle very well, then sprinkle the toys with a good amount of this natural disinfectant and let it act for 1 or 2 minutes. Then clean with a damp microfiber and let the toys dry with air. So fast and simple!

We would love to know, how was your experience in cleaning the home areas and your baby’s things.
