Eat your veggies! Yes, we all know that including vegetables and fruits in our daily diet is essential to have good health. Vegetables are inherently rich in minerals and vitamins that benefit our body and help us prevent diseases by strengthening our immune system. Even the seasonal recipes around harvesting cycles have shaped tasteful traditions. But in this post, we want to show you how to properly clean your vegetables before consumption.

Most of the time we consume fruits and vegetables when they are raw, for example, in salads or as snacks. The truth is that this is the best way to consume fruits and vegetables because we get the most of their vitamins and minerals, but if we do not properly wash them before consumption, they could be a risk to our health, since they can have germs, mold, waxes, and chemical residues on their exterior.

So, here we show you the steps you must follow before consuming any fruit or vegetable:

  1. Wash your hands very well so as not to contaminate vegetables and fruits.
  2. Always wash your fruits and vegetables before splitting or peeling them. When you wash the whole fruit or vegetable, you prevent the pathogens in the shell from going inside.
  3. If the vegetables and/or fruits have excess dirt, use a clean brush or sponge (only for this use) that’s soap-free.

Options to wash your vegetables and fruits before cutting them.

  • Dilute a tablespoon of baking soda in a liter of water, then soak the vegetables and fruits in this solution for 10 minutes. Finally, rinse the pieces with water, and let them dry in the open air.
  • Dilute a glass of vinegar in a liter of water and soak the vegetables and fruits for 10 minutes. Finally, rinse the pieces with water, and let them dry.
  • And if you have lemon at home, you can combine it with a little vinegar to create an ideal blend to eliminate any germ from your fruits and vegetables. In a bowl mix equal parts of water, lemon and vinegar, and in this mixture soak your fruits and vegetables for 10 minutes. Then rinse them with clean water.
